Climbing the 1st Highest Mountain In The Philippines The 1st Time Was A Success, Here’s How I did it to Mt. Apo Summits

Preparation is the key but above all, you must have a goal, a great reason to achieve something major; because Mt. Apo is not easy to summit, hardship is 9/9, so do not underestimate for your own safety. It’s better to be over-prepared than disappoint yourself in the end. Impress yourself, to gain her trust. Above all, you must decide to go for that climb on your own will, give yourself permission.

I decided to take my first major climb in the Philippine’s first highest mountain, the Mt. Apo, located in Davao Philippines; then committed to solo hard training both mentally and physically; doing it solo also prepared me spiritually, it really helped me not feeling scared with being left behind and being alone; it helped me focus, knowing that I’m prepared and no matter what happened and I will be fine in the end.

I’m prepared with emergency kits, like hand warmers, trail food, water, tent and blanket in case of emergency stop over because the weather in Mt. Apo is changing so fast and it’s unpredictable. Thick Gloves, thick clothing for winter or a windbreaker whichever suits you well, then breathable shoes with thick socks is advisable because it’s freezing cold up there starting at the boulders and into the summit. Rain is unpredictable so always bring a raincoat.

If it’s your first time to do major hike and you really want the highest trail on your first attempt, then go for it! Do your research and listen to the climbers experiences and learned from them, do what must be done.

Once you have decided to go, start with your breathing exercises, using the trekking poles correctly, body possessions when climbing to avoid injuries; to care for the those below you, by stepping the strongest stones!

I didn’t take formal mountaineering classes but I did my own research like a master! My safety in Mt. Apo climb is proof that I am ready to take my Masters Degree in anything I want to achieve next in my chosen career! Watch me, I’m going to make it!

Choose the right guide!

It’s hard for me to bring people along because I have to take responsibility of them, and some are not just ready or they just want a different team or a person to be with. For now, I only have the power to focus on me, so the Lord gave me those who are ready and can stand on their own.

There’s always a reason for delays, cancellation; other than fear, it’s also a protection from the universe. What is meant to be is meant to be when the stars aligned and everything is in good order, because we all deserve something better. Do not force your time with temporaries, you will always feel incomplete; have patience and work in yourself, do not just wait, do what needs to be done.

Too many times I felt rejected, cancelled, unwanted; only to find out that I was being redirected because I deserve the best. I did not gave up, I gave it a chance. I got redirected to the best guide and the best joiners that time. I finally felt connected, found, welcomed and guided. The whole team made the climb livelier, easier, like we’re just playing.

It was like spotting the next goal and then going after it, taking one step at a time. We’re not waiting for others to catch up but at the same time we’re not leaving them behind on purpose nor pressure them to push; we let them listen to their own bodies, focus on our steps and then when we found the best spots to gather together, we relaxed and let them catch up. Climbing is not just about getting into the summit, it’s also enjoying and having fun while we keep moving up!

Choosing the right guide involves comfortability, because if the guide is not for you it will be as quiet as… not going anymore. Catch the energy of the guide and choose someone you trust and proud of. In all ways, communication is the key, either for safety purposes or for anything!

Someone has to answer your questions, because for a first time major climber in Mt. Apo, you must have a lot of questions and you will not even ask if you don’t feel the connection and it’s a big NO. Maybe there’s a reason why I was redirected to “Chong”, and I thanks “Cee Je” for understanding.

“Chong” of Monteana Hikes was very responsive, cares about us not just the business. He’s an ultra trail runner and was 1st to complete 100+ km trail run including Mt. Apo in 2025! No wonder why his energy is at peak. You will know when the person is connected and dedicated on their career.

In that journey, it’s only clear to me that the people I’m meant to be surrounded with are consistent and present. I also met like-minded individuals who inspired me to keep going. If you’re already in that mountain, just keep going and moving, because the wind is strong and cold up there, you must generate heat.

Choose the right guide that will prepare you mentally and of course will keep you reminded and briefed! Safety must be your main priority, and summit comes naturally. Above all, have fun! Make it your playground instead of a prison, let yourself be. Let them be.

Remember not to be scared of getting lost because there are signs ahead of you, just keep going. Remember that we have the same exit points, it doesn’t matter how you did it, which way you follow, as long as it’s safe. There’s no such things as getting lost, you are a creator creating your own way and if it’s not working, then choose the other way.

Sta. Cruz Trail, 2 Days and 1 night to Mt. Apo summit! Next goal: Day hike šŸŒ„šŸ™Œ

Be like water and the water master; do not go against, go along; make sure you choose the right direction and the right people.

Boulder’s Climb requires patients and presence.
